PAU conduct The Trainer Program for Trainers of Organic Grower

LUDHIANA: Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, and Agriculture Skill Council of India take steps in capacity building for skill India under Pardhan Mantri Kaushul Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) scheme of government of India.

As part of capacity building under Pardhan Mantri Kaushul Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, and Agriculture Skill Council of India working under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship have come together to conduct the Train The Trainer Program for Trainers of Organic Grower from 14th to 16th Sept 16 to produce quality trainers for rural areas and contribute in the Skill India Mission.

Col Kamal Sodhi, Director, ASCI , during his closing address told that such kind of training programs will be useful in diverting youth towards the organic farming, a high growth area and motivate them to venture in this sector. The training included lectures, demonstrations, practical skills and finally assessment by third party to see their suitability as trainers under PMKVY. Special emphasis was given on the practices of fertilization and egg parasitoid trichogramma for bio-suppression of insect’s pest in organic field. He added that these trainees once certified as trainers will be ambassadors of PAU and ASCI in the organic farming field. The major thrust of such program is to provide trainers to further train the un-employed youth and provide them with skills to enhance their income in rural areas.

Dr H S Bajwa, Senior Extension Specialist and Dr C S Aulakh, Senior Agronomist, coordinated the program from Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana and it was emphasized that to take a leap ahead in achieving the goal of skilled human resources in Organic Farming and other agriculture related fields, number of steps have been taken jointly by PAU and ASCI in terms of development of TOT programs, curriculum and content in addition to exposure of Trainers to Competency and Occupational Standard based training.
