Seven Kisan Melas in Punjab by PAU


Ludhiana: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will be holding a series of seven Kisan Divas/Melas in September 2016, to apprise the farmers and farm women of latest farm technologies and household management practices.

“PAU kheti sifarshan, Faslan lai vardan, Vigyanik kheti naal hi, Safal hon kirsan (PAU farm recommendations, A blessing for crops, With scientific farming, Farmers reach the top” is the theme of the melas. For the benefit of farming community, the University will be organizing these melas in different districts of Punjab.

Divulging details, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, PAU said the series will kick off with Kisan Divas at Ballowal Saunkhri on September 9 followed by Kisan Divas at Nagkalan Jahangir, Amritsar and at Faridkot on September 12 and 14, respectively.

He also informed that the Kisan Melas at Rauni (Patiala) and Gurdaspur will be held on September 16 and 20, respectively. Besides, a two-day Kisan Mela at PAU campus, Ludhiana will be organized on September 22 and 23 whereas the last Kisan Mela will be held at Bathinda on September 29.

Kisan Melas would equip the farmers with the knowledge about advanced farm practices for the forthcoming rabi season. Dr Sidhu told that farmers would be provided an opportunity to share their agrarian issues with the University experts at exhibition and technical stalls, to be put up by University departments. During these divas/melas the farm literature, new seeds and planting material would also be available for sale.
