Agri University News: A Ph.D. Student From PAU Gets Research Grant

Ludhiana: A Ph.D. student (Biochemistry) from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Miss Ravneet Kaur has been awarded research grant by the Department of Science and Technology under Women Scientist Scheme A (WOS-A) for pursuing doctoral research on “Biochemical basis of micronutrient deficiency tolerance in triticale X wheat derivative lines.” The fellowship amount is Rs 30,000/month with the project grant for three years amounting to Rs 17, 50,000/.

The Major Advisor, Dr (Mrs) Surekha Bhatia, Assistant Biochemist, said while giving details of the proposed research, the study will help in identification of biochemical basis of micronutrient deficiency tolerance in triticale X wheat derivatives lines.

The project will generate knowledge, which can prove to be critical for development of micronutrient deficiency tolerant wheat lines, particularly in the context of intensive agriculture practiced in the state. Likewise, micronutrient-efficient genotypes raised on soils of low nutrient availability will represent an eco-friendly approach, according to Dr (Mrs) Bavita Asthir, Head, Department of Biochemistry.
