PAU Signs MOU With Khalsa College, Amritsar
For berseem seed production the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with the Khalsa College, Amritsar. The memorandum of understanding on behalf of respective institutions signed by Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, and Dr Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College, Amritsar.
As per the memorandum, good quality of berseem seed of improved varieties of PAU will be produced at the agricultural farm of the Khalsa College, Amritsar and after that it will further be distributed to the dairy farmers, who are facing shortage of good quality berseem seed.
“The supply of good quality fodder seed is a key factor for boosting the dairy farming. Among rabi fodder, berseem is an important fodder crop,” said Dr Dhillon.
He observed that berseem is being cultivated on an area of about 2.26 lakh hectares and timely supply of good quality, disease free seed is a challenge in Punjab. This agreement would go a long way in providing good quality berseem seed to the dairy farmers.
On the occasion, Dr R.K. Gumber, Director of Research and Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Director (Seeds), PAU, were also present.
