ICAR Sponsored Training Course on Climate Smart Strategies Kicks Off at PAU
29th Nov 2023- The 34th national level three-week ICAR sponsored Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) programme on “Climate Smart Strategies to Increase Input Use Efficiency of Soil and Water Resources” kicked off in the Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Scientists from six states comprising Gujarat, Bihar, Telangana, Haryana, Jammu and Tamil Nadu are attending this training course.
Inaugurating the training programme, the chief guest Dr CS Aulakh, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, highlighted the benefits of sustainable agriculture which focused on increasing the productivity of soil, organic farming and reducing the harmful effects of agricultural practices on climate, soil, water, environment and human health.
Dr Dhanwinder Singh, Head, Department of Soil Science and Director of CAFT, shared the achievements of the department as well as faculty in the area of soil science. The Department of Soil Science was awarded ICAR sponsored Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) in 1994, he told, while informing that it had organized 33 CAS/CAFT trainings and trained more than 565 scientists since 1995.
Earlier, Dr R Sikka, Chief Coordinator, CAFT, welcomed the participants and the faculty. He informed that the training would lay thrust on resource conservation technologies; carbon sequestration - nutrient, water and residue management; alternate uses of crop wastes; agroforestry; organic farming and farming system approach. He further informed that the resource persons from the Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana; Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu; ASRNM, Lucknow; YS Parmar University, Solan; Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal and many other reputed institutes would share their knowledge and experiences in the relevant fields.
Later, Dr MS Kahlon, Coordinator of the training programme, proposed a vote of thanks.
