Rs 180Cr. Granted for Shivamogga Horticulture University
Shivamogga: To build a new campus for Shivamogga Horticulture University at Iruvakki village in Sagar taluka, the state government has announced Rs 180 crore special grant, said Agriculture minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
In the presence of district minister Kagodu Thimmappa at Agriculture Research Station at Navile, Gowda speaking after inaugurating a four-day that the new campus which will come up on a 600 acre plot will have all the modern amenities required for research and learning.
To create a conducive atmosphere to attract youth to take up agriculture, he called upon experts and specialists at the university. For the benefit of farmers, more than 100 stalls have come up at the Mela. The university extension wing has opened its demonstration plots for farmers to visit and understand new methods of agriculture.
Revenue minister Kagodu Thimmappa said that, the state government has taken all necessary measures to tackle prevailing drought situation in the state.
The minister asked officials to work on a war footing to provide relief to people affected by drought. He warned officials "Any slackness or delay in reaching relief to the affected people will not be tolerated." The state government has released sufficient money to tackle the situation. The main concern should be providing clean and safe drinking water and fodder to cattle.
