Agricultural University Training Program on Seed Processing and Handling at PAMETI
Ludhiana: A training programme on “Seed Processing, Handling, Transportation and Quality Control” organized at the Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMTEI), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) from 15th June. This is a three-day training program. As many as 20 officials of Indian Farm Forestry Development Co-operative Limited (IFFDC) are attended the programme and they are from the states of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Dr S.S. Gill, former Director of Extension Education, PAU, while inaugurating the training programme. He also motivated the participants to adopt scientific procedures for processing seed and urged them to focus on scientific ways to handle and transport seed, and disseminate the same to the farmers.
Dr H.S. Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI highlighted the importance of good quality seed for progressive agriculture. An official from Punjab Seed Certification Agency discussed the seed certification procedure.
Latest machinery and technology are also shown here. A visit to University Seed Farm at Naraingarh was conducted to show the trainees, varieties of various cereals and vegetables that are processed and packaged there. To educate the trainees about how the progressive seed producers of Punjab run their ventures, a visit to the farms of Laddowal Seeds and Jarria Seeds were organized.
