Agricultural Education Day was Celebrated at GADVASU.

Ludhiana: At the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), ‘Agricultural Education Day’ was celebrated. To take part in the celebration, in all, 60 students from of Partap Public School and Guru Ram Das Academy were invited.

Dr HK Verma, director, Extension Education, briefed about the functioning of the university during the celebration. The courses being offered, admission process and scope of jobs after graduation are highlighted in his lecture. The importance and significance of celebrating the day is highlighted in Dr PS Brar, dean, College of Veterinary Science, in his address. On this day, Dr Rajinder Prasad, the first Union Minister of Agriculture and the first president of Independent India, was born on this day.

He emphasised upon by choosing veterinary and allied science as professional career, diversification of agriculture and the role students could play. The occasion was also graced by dean, College of Fisheries, Dr Asha Dhawan; Dr CK Singh; Dr PN Diwedi; DR TS Rai and Dr APS Brar, sports in-charge of the university.

Since in India 70 percent of rural population had a strong acquaintance with agriculture, it was important to inform students about agricultural education, he said.

Views on Indian agriculture are expressed by school students and emphasised upon the need to hold interactive sessions between students and scientists.

NCC unit, fisheries complex and veterinary clinics are visited by students, also they asked their queries before the scientists and farmers.
