Training in Drip Irrigation, Fertigation and Protected Cultivation at PAU .


Ludhiana: A five-day training programme on “Drip Irrigation, Fertigation and Protected Cultivation,” organized by The Precision Farming Development Center (PFDC), Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and which concluded at PAU. From different districts of Punjab attended the training programme total of 37 participants. This programme is conducted on the request of farmers and so far, 24 such training programmes have been conducted.

This training programme is quite popular among the farmers from the state as well as adjoining states. Farmers were educated about various aspects of drip irrigation and fertigation. The experts delved on different concepts of drip irrigation viz. installation and maintenance of drip irrigation system, and construction of water storage tanks. Besides, they shed light on the scope of protected cultivation, construction of protected cultivation structures, construction of poly net, soil less cultivation, and shade net houses, management of greenhouse, cultivation of vegetables and flowers, post-harvest management of greenhouse produce and type of assistance available through National Horticulture Mission for integrated development of horticulture, informed Dr Rakesh Sharda, Principal Investigator of PFDC.

Dr Rakesh Sharda, Dr K.G. Singh, Dr A.K. Jain, Dr Mukesh Siag, Dr Nilesh Biwalkar, Dr Sanjay Satpute, Dr Sailesh Jindal, Dr Parminder Singh, Dr Kulbir Singh, Dr Rajinder Dhall, Dr Abhishek Sharma and Dr BVC Mahajan are the experts included in this programme to guide participants.
