Farm Varsities Officers Attend Meeting at PAU

To discuss and share the recent agricultural and veterinary technologies developed by the universities in the region, a joint meeting of Technology Review and Dissemination Committee was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).

The meeting was chaired by Dr R.K. Gumber, Director of Research. The Directors of Research and Extension from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi; CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (HPKVV), Palampur; YSP University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan; CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar; Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar; Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences of Technology (SKUAST), Jammu; Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana participated in the meeting. Additional Directors of Research and Extension and the Heads of Departments of PAU were also present.

A brief outline of the work done in the field of agricultural and veterinary sciences, and the technologies developed recently for their respective states including various modes of extending the developed technologies among the farmers in their states was given by the officers from different universities.

Dr Gumber, while welcoming the members of the Committee, informed that these meetings are held twice a year to share information about the varieties/technologies developed during this period by different institutes for the benefit of the farmers. He gave a brief outline of the varieties and production technologies, recently developed by PAU.

The sharing of PAU technologies with scientists of Himachal Pradesh through Krishi Vigyan Kendras are highlighted by Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, PAU. He also highlighted the fight against whitefly in Punjab and Haryana through joint efforts of the scientists of both the states.

He told that the joint efforts made by the scientists from PAU and HPKVV to tackle yellow rust disease would now be extended with the inclusion of scientists from SKUAST, Jammu. The group agreed upon to share the training schedule on various topics and extension publications of different universities in future. It was also decided that the agenda for the next meeting of the Committee would include specific issues concerning the farmers of the region in general.
