At Kisan Mela, PAU to Hold Crop Produce Competition.

On the first day of Kisan Mela, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organize a ‘Crop Produce Competition’, slated for September 22 at Ludhiana.

Among vegetables, competition in recommended varieties of okra(bhindi), karela, chilies, ram tori, brinjal, radish, ghiya kaddu(long and round)/halwa kaddu, cowpea or any other vegetable crop will be held, informed Dr C.S. Aulakh, Senior Agronomist and Convener of Produce Competition Committee

Dr Aulakh told that the sample size of okra (bhindi), karela, chilies and ram tori should be half kg. Ghiyakaddu (long and round)/halwa kaddu should be three pieces and the sample size of brinjal, radish, cowpea or any other vegetable crop should be half kg or three pieces.

Among field crops, competition in recommended varieties of maize cobs/baby corn, sugarcane, cotton or any other will be held. The sample size of these crops should be five cobs, three or four mature canes, one or three mature plant with bolls and two or three mature plants, he said.

Competition in recommended varieties of fruits such as guava, lime and lemon, malta/grape fruit, papaya or any other seasonal fruit will also be conducted. The sample size of guava, lime and lemon should be half kg whereas of malta/grape fruit, papaya or any other seasonal fruit, it should be three pieces.

Among flowers, competition in marigold, cut rose/loose rose, tuberose (rajni gandha) or any other flower will be held and the sample size of marigold should be five stems/spikes whereas of cut rose/loose rose, tuberose (rajni gandha) or any other flower, it should be five stems/spikes/250 g.

The entries for the competition will be entertained up to 11.30 a.m. on September 22 at the produce competition stall, near PAU Kairon Kisan Ghar. No entry will be entertained after the specified time.
